What happens on Placement?
Students undertake many different types of activities on a placement. The following is a brief list from previous placements. Each activity may not apply at every placement site
- Carrying out psychological assessments of skills, abilities, needs, interests, values and personality
- Conducting interviews in a caring and appropriate manner
- Assessment of material gathered from interviews or other research projects
- Writing reports or other forms of technical writing in an appropriate register
- Prioritizing issues needing to be resolved
- Applying psychology skills to case studies of individuals or groups
- Remaining informed about latest developments in this area and being able to communicate latest research to colleagues in the workplace
- Applying critical and creative thinking to unfamiliar situations
- Working on existing or longer terms projects as part of a team, or on own
- Using appropriate research skills
- Observing interviews and mediation sessions, preparing advice and conducting consultation sessions
- Attending meetings
- Filing, requesting and analysing appropriate files
- Reviewing case management files and procedures
- Facilitating group activities
- Learning how to research in shorter time frames
