Placement Information

Students undertake 850 hours of Professional Placements for the Masters of Forensic Psychology degree. Generally, these placements occur in the final year of their course. Placements can be taken as a stream (involving one or more days per week over a number of months) or a block (two, three or more weeks) and all together they will amount to 850 hours or 105 eight-hour working days.

This component of the course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to develop practical competency in a variety of forensic settings working with a number of experienced practitioners. This competency includes applying skills of a psychologist within different work settings as well as negotiating the role of a psychologist in these settings.

The placement fulfill a requirement for membership of the Australian Psychology Society and for state regstration as a psychologist. Placements are intended to equip students with practical skills that will enable them to undertake tasks in varied areas of forensic psychology.
