How to apply Application procedure for research degrees - PhD, MSc, and combined PhD/MPsychol All applicants should refer to the Graduate Research School website, which provides much useful background material about the University and about living in Sydney, as well as other details relevant to postgraduate study such as English language requirements, tuition fees and application procedures. Applications for combined PhD/MPscyhol programs close on 31 October. Applications for PhD and MSc programs close one month before the commencement of the session in which enrolment is to begin. 1. Apply for admission by applying online here The University code is:
2. If applying for the combined PhD/MPsychol program, arrange for two referees (either academic or professional) and email their titles, full names and email addresses to the School of Psychology at enquiries@psy.unsw.edu.au. The School will then send each referee a link, along with a unique code, to the online Referee’s Report submission system. Once referees complete reports online, they are electronically delivered to the School. The School may approach referees for additional information. Note: (a) Prior to applying, you should establish whether supervision is available within the School. To do this, you should contact members of academic staff whose research interests coincide with your own to see whether anyone is willing to act as your supervisor, pending admission into the School. The best way to determine whom to contact is through the website http://www.psy.unsw.edu.au/research/groups/researchgroups.html, where the research groups are listed. The School cannot admit any applicant for whom supervision is not available. (b) Application for admission to the School is separate from application for a scholarship, like an APA or EIPRS. For information on scholarship, please visit the Graduate Research School website. Application procedure - Master of Psychology Coursework Programs (Clinical, Forensic & Organisational) Applications for Semester 1 are due by 31 October of the previous year. These programs cannot be started in Semester 2. The University code for the MPsychol (Clinical) degree is 8256 Please note: Priority will be given to applicants for the Combined PhD/Masters (Clinical) program rather than the straight MPsychol (Clinical) program in the first instance although some MPsychol (Clinical) applications may be successful in exceptional circumstances. The University code for the MPsychol (Forensic) degree is 8257 The University code for the MPsychol (Organisational) degree is 8258 To be considered for the MPsychol (Clinical) program, you will require an Honours Class 1 degree in Psychology from UNSW or a qualification considered equivalent. The minimum entry requirement for the MPsychol (Forensic) and the MPsychol (Organisational) is an Honours Class 1 or high Class 2 degree in Psychology from UNSW or a qualification considered equivalent. 1. Apply for admission by using the UNSW Apply Online service. Alternatively, you may download a Postgraduate Coursework Application Form for Domestic Students or International Students. 2. Arrange for two referees (either academic or professional) and email their titles, full names and email addresses to the School of Psychology at enquiries@psy.unsw.edu.au. The School will then send each referee a link, along with a unique code, to the online Referee’s Report submission system. Once referees complete reports online, they are electronically delivered to the School. The School may approach referees for additional information. Please note that it will not be possible to complete the processing of an application until the two referee's reports have been received. 3. If your Psychology qualifications are from overseas, you must have them assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as equivalent to an Australian four-year undergraduate program (including Honours). See the APS website for more details. Once you receive positive advice from the APS, you should send an original or a certified copy to the Direct Admissions Office (UNSW Sydney NSW 2052 Australia) either following your online application or along with your paper application form. It should be noted that entry into the UNSW Masters Programs is competitive. Acceptance of your qualifications by the APS does not guarantee a place in a course. 4. When all the information about your application has been received, we will make our decisions. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in late November or early December. Offers will be made in mid-December. Orientation sessions will be held in O-Week (the week before the start of Semester 1). If you require further information regarding the above process, please contact the respective Placement Co-ordinator for each program: Master of Psychology Clinical Program: Ms Alice Shires (a.shires@unsw.edu.au) Master of Psychology Forensic Program: Ms Anita McGregor (amcgregor@unsw.edu.au) Master of Psychology Organisational Program: Mr Winston Horne (w.horne@unsw.edu.au) |
