Facilities

The School occupies Levels 5-11 of the Mathews building, and also has space on Levels 1, 2 and 4.

There is a comprehensive Technical Support Unit on Level 1, with construction, electronic and IT facilities. Specialised research laboratories are located throughout the School. Level 6 is a behavioural neuroscience facility with animal holding rooms, a wide variety of testing rooms and equipment, and surgical and histology facilities. Level 8 houses clinical research space, as well as the Psychology Clinic which provides services in clinical psychology to members of the public and training for students in the M Psychol (Clin) program. Level 9 houses the Careers Assessment Service, which provides a professional careers testing and advisory service, and training for students in the M Psychol (Org) program. The Test Library on Level 8 contains a comprehensive range of tests and assessment material for research and professional training.

There are specialised teaching laboratories in perception, social psychology and behavioural neuroscience, as well as five computer laboratories. The majority of desktop computers in the School are Windows-based, with some Macintosh machines. All rooms are networked, with file serving, email, Internet access and software (MS Office, SPSS) supported by the School and the University. The major databases and journals in psychology are available online through the University Library. The University's Education Technology Unit provides support for online teaching resources such as WebCT Vista, digital lecture recording and interactive training and assessment. The School runs a first year psychology research participation scheme administered via the Experimetrix web-based scheduling system.

The School's common room on Level 10 is available to all members of the School and postgraduate students for meetings, weekly School colloquia, and social events. There are also numerous research group and lab meetings held in labs and meeting spaces throughout the School.
