FAQ Q. Who do I contact to get computer support? Please contact the Technical Support Unit (TSU). Q. How do I signup for a Psychology computer account? Please contact the Technical Support Unit with your staff details. Q. Do I get my own personal e-mail address? All UNSW staff members are assigned e-mail addresses under the unsw.edu.au domain. All official UNSW correspondence is sent and received using @unsw.edu.au email addresses. These e-mail addresses have the form intial.lastname@unsw.edu.au or a close variation. Psychology staff may also be able to get an e-mail alias of the form intial.lastname@psy.unsw.edu.au. Please click here for more information. Q. What e-mail system does the university currently use? UNSW e-mail system is based on Exchange 2007 and staff that use Outlook as their mail client has a rich set of productivity features available to them. Q. Am I allowed to use my e-mail enabled mobile device to connect to the Exchange e-mail? Yes. Relevant information is found here. Q. How do I forward my UNSW e-mail to another e-mail address? You can forward your UNSW e-mail to another address you prefer. Please click here for more information. Q. Do we have wireless access in the Mathews building and if so, how do I connect to the wireless network? All floors in the Mathews building occupied by the school have UniWide (UNSW Wireless Network) access. Click here to learn how to connect your device to UniWide. Q. How do I access my work computers and servers from home? The UNSW Enterprise Remote Access VPN Service (or UNSW VPN) allows you to establish a secure network connection between an off-campus computer and UNSW networked resources such as computers and file servers, over the Internet. How do I order software/hardware? Please read the relevant section under Ordering Hardware and Software or contact the Technical Support Unit. Q. How do I book a room or a lab? Please refer to the relevant section under Booking Resources or contact the Technical Support Unit. Q. How do I book a notebook and/or a data projector? Please refer to the relevant section under Booking Resources or contact the Technical Support Unit. Q. I would like to put some personal information up on the web. Each staff member will have a profile page that displays information such as research areas and publications. The information able to be displayed and the style of these pages are limited to maintain consistency. In addition, staff can get their own personal web space where they can place any information they wish. Please contact the Technical Support Unit for more information. Q. How would I setup a Blackboard page for my course? Blackboard is managed by the Learning and Teaching Unit. Please click here for more support information on Blackboard. Camilla in the school office may also be able to assist you with any Blackboard queries. Q. I would like to store lecture notes and other documents for a course on the Psychology web server. Generally this should be done using Blackboard. If you have a reason to create or gain access to an area on the Psychology server for a course, please contact the Technical Support Unit. Q. Do I have access to an FTP server? Please contact the Technical Support Unit if you would like to arrange this. This service is only available if you want to share a large data set with external users. Q. What other support services are provided by the Technical Support Unit? It provides staff and research students with a wide range of technical services in areas of teaching, research and administration. This service extends from technical advice regarding purchases of electrical and electronic equipment as well as asset control and OH&S to the design, construction, maintenance and interfacing of all manner of research and teaching equipment.
