Prof Simon Killcross has taken over duties as Head of School from Assoc Prof Brett Hayes, who was the acting Head of School for a year.
Prof Killcross has a strong international reputation in the fields of behavioural neuroscience and the psychology of learning. His particular research interests lie in the examination of brain systems underpinning cognitive processes, including work on animal models of human mental disorders, studies of the molecular basis of learning, and more recently, studies in clinical populations.
Prior to joining UNSW, he was the Deputy Head of School of Psychology at Cardiff University. Prof Killcross’ academic career has seen him working in research departments at Cambridge, York and Cardiff universities.
